This port is technically a pier, located south of Cockburn Town and next to a stunning beach spanning nearly 780,000 square feet. You’ll see locales and tourists sunbathing, swimming, and relaxing as you walk off the ship. The massive duty-free shop at Grand Turk’s cruise port is only one of dozens of stores available within a short walk of the pier. Other restaurants and shops can be found a short drive away in Cockburn Town. We found multiple cruises on Carnival Freedom and Sun Princess where the scheduled stop at Turks and Caicos was 8-10 hours long from morning to early evening.

What Cruise Passengers Need to Know About Grand Turk Cruise Port

It’s basically the same menu at all of Jimmy Buffet’s restaurants, but if you plan to go back and forth to the ship all day, it’s convenient. Of course there’s good ol’ Margaritaville back at the Cruise Center. Great for those less adventurous or prefer to stay close to the cruise port. Don’t forget to hit up all of the boutique stores to shop for souvenirs and gifts for you and your loved ones.

Poolside Cabana Rental Full Day

You’ll see people up and down the shore, but if you want the best spot then we’d suggest heading north of the dock (to the left as you face the shore from the ship). Whether you choose to hang out, eat and shop at the cruise center, venture into town or purchase a shore excursion, a port call in Grand Turk is sure to be a fun and memorable experience. If you didn’t reserve your shore excursions ahead of time, there are tons of vendor booths within the complex for you to choose your tour. Planning excursions can be overwhelming, so try to research before visiting.

Be sure to try the nachos, burgers, jerk salmon and conch fritters, and swim up to the bar for a signature Margarita. Grand Turk is the largest of the Turks Islands that make up Turks and Caicos. The island is small, measuring only 6.9 square miles, however it has both historic and natural wonders that cruise passengers will enjoy exploring.

Explore Grand Turk

Grand Turk is truly awe inspiring from the moment you pull into port. Today we are going to highlight some of the amazing things you can see and do while visiting Grand Turk. If you’d prefer to have a guide on your island tour, many of the taxis will be happy to show the sights and sounds of the island. If you’d like to rent a car, golf cart, or scooter, we advise making a reservation in advance of your visit.

Margaritaville at Grand Turk

There isn’t a crowded city or waterfront, just a laid-back little town with great beaches and a little British Bermudian Colonial heritage. Start by visiting the cruise port; grab a bite from Margaritaville, then head on over to sunray beach for a day of sun and splashing. Something in common with Carnival Cruise Line destination ports is the horse ride excursion. Enjoy a tour of the island all the way into the shallow waters of the ocean on a horse’s back.

Grand Turk Cruise Center Terminal Information

Cabanas are available for those who want to relax in a more private setting. Most cruisers use a Grand Turk port day as a beach day, and there are plenty of picture-perfect beaches to choose from on this Island. If you want to venture from the more crowded beach at the Cruise Center, Governor’s Beach is a short distance away. Gibbs Cay is a tiny, uninhabited island on the eastern side of Grand Turk. It has some of the most beautiful beaches and the best diving sites the Turks and Caicos islands have to offer.

Snorkel at Cockburn Town Beach

If you need diving or snorkeling gear, the Boho Dive Resort rents out such gear. On your ride back, you will go on the salt industry tour, visiting Salinas like the Red Salina and even make a stop at the Salt House exhibit. Then you will return to the cruise center have a drink, a meal and go enjoy the beach if you have time. If you are looking for a bit of excitement and have always wanted to surf but never had the chance to, or was afraid of the ocean’s mighty waves, try the FlowRider. Located on the giant swimming pool at the cruise center, the FlowRider offers a surfing experience almost as exhilarating as the ocean.

There are several tours you can take to learn about its history and admire the British-Bermudian Colonial architecture. You can find Caribbean cruises to book including the Carnival Cruise Line destination of Grand Turk. If you are tired of the beach scene and just want an adrenaline-packed escape to a tropical forest, then this excursion is for you. ATV’s are fun and what better way to see the whole island, which isn’t that big than to blaze through it at high speeds on challenging nature trails.

Carnival Freedom arrived at the port today during a six-night eastern Caribbean voyage from Miami. The sailing’s two other ports are Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic, along with Carnival Corporation’s private Bahamian island Half Moon Cay. Right next to the beach is a great cruise terminal filled with ample shopping. Everything from Christmas ornaments to clothes are available at the stores.

Like most Caribbean destinations, Grand Turk Cruise Center offers a variety of retail stores. Remember, the island has nothing unique – think of spots like Diamonds International, Effy, etc. The museum is about a 12-minute taxi ride north of the Cruise Center. If you want to learn more about the intriguing history of the Turks & Caicos Islands, you might want to visit the national museum located on Grand Turk.

There is no public transport on Grand Turk, including train service. Cockburn Town, the capital of Turks & Caicos, is also just a 10-minute drive away and home to the Turks & Caicos National Museum and the H.M. Although parts of the town’s waterfront have been damaged by hurricanes, some of the old colonial buildings still stand.

On the west side of the island between the cruise port and Cockburn Town is Governor’s Beach. Most guests agree that this beach is the best beach on Grand Turk because of its beautiful landscape and shallow waters, perfect for swimming. If you’re looking for a little exercise and want to get out into Grand Turk’s beautiful water, consider a kayak or stand up paddleboard (SUP) tour.

Jack’s Shack has become the afternoon escape from the hub-bub and tackiness of Margaritaville at the Cruise Center. Located just a short walk from the cruise dock, Jack’s Shack is only 540 yards north of the Cruise Center. Besides seeing the island from the water, there are plenty of tours to see the island from land. There are also open-air trucks available to cruise around and learn about the town.

She was welcomed with open arms by the locals, who were thrilled to offer activities to visitors once again. One of the most popular shops at the center is the Ron Jon Surf Shop, offering surf gear, beachwear, logo items, and accessories. Visitors can find everything they need for a day at the beach, including swimwear, towels, and sunscreen. Most retail shops are limited to the cruise port as the island is not developed for tourism besides the occasional grocery store, electronics shop, or bar. Poolside cabanas are available for those who want to relax in a more private setting. The cabanas can go fast depending on how many ships are in port (remember, two ships can dock there, adding up to a combined 10,000 visitors a day.
